Events for the Week: Thumos Hustle, The Missing Weltanschauung, Natural Intelligence in Practice, Collective Coaching, and Leaving the Nexus
Hey beautiful people,
LOTS of exciting stuff happening at The Stoa this week. Here is the line-up…
Thumos Hustle. September 5-9 @ 12:30-4:30 PM ET. RSVP here.
The Beyond Self-Discipline: Thumos Bootcamp Edition course started this weekend and the goodness of thumos has been collectively summoned. The primordial zero fucks that thumos invokes is the perfect state to start that project you've been sitting on. As part of the course, we will be doing 4-hour sessions on Monday to Friday for two weeks in order to have the space to work on a project or to get some shit done. These will be similar to the Stoic Hustles (see 10-16 mins here) and we are opening these up to the entire Stoa family.
The Missing Weltanschauung: Perennial Wisdom for Systems Change w/ Wai H. Tsang. September 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th @ 12:00 PM ET. RSVP here.
In this series of four interlinking presentations, Wai will explain what the missing 21st-century “weltanschaunng” looks like. Over the years, many thinkers and commentators have predicted a coming paradigm shift, a required new narrative, or a missing worldview that would be necessary for the bringing about of desired societal, economic, and political changes, along with the averting of the unfolding ecological and environmental catastrophe. We seem forever stuck in the “liminal” state of expectation and the paradigm shift doesn’t seem to be happening, precisely because there doesn’t seem to be a clear articulation of what the required worldview and narrative are. This series intends to change that.
Natural Intelligence in Practice w/ Jill Nephew. September 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th @ 6:00 PM ET. RSVP here.
“The science is in” from modern cognitive science shows us precisely, unambiguously, how we have been unintentionally harming our natural intelligence and reveals the mechanisms for how this harm acts as a generator function of the meta-crisis. In this series, Jill will give a brief overview of natural intelligence and summarize the nature of the adaptations and re-imaginings, then the bulk of the series will dive into key domains in need of adaptation and/or re-imagining such as information technology, education, psychotechnology, management, and governance processes and more. If you’d like to learn about what natural intelligence is before the series you can do so here.
Collective Coaching w/ Yanique Bird. September 7th @ 12:00 PM ET. RSVP here. 2 hours.
Yanique Bird concludes her 4-part Collective Coaching series at The Stoa. This series is inspired by the work of Otto Scharmer’s Theory U. The collective wisdom of the group will be sourced to help one volunteer (the case-giver) with a challenge that is most alive for them. This session will not be recorded. If you have not attended one of these yet, they are definitely worth checking out.
Leaving the Nexus: The Left After Cancel Culture w/ Clementine Morrigan and Jay Lesoleil. September 7th @ 6:00 PM ET. RSVP here.
Clementine Morrigan and Jay Lesoleil from the Fucking Cancelled podcast visit The Stoa to discuss a post-cancel culture left and leaving “the nexus” …
We are leftists who have spent many years inside the nexus. We have been too afraid to critique it and we have suffered the consequences of critiquing it. We know all too well the destructive impact the nexus has on our communities, our movements, our spiritual, emotional, and mental health, and our capacity to be responsible, ethical actors. We are also recovering addicts who live our lives by a set of spiritual and ethical principles which are starkly at odds with the rules of the nexus. We offer these principles as a guiding light toward a different left.
Here is what is happening at The Stoa’s wisdom gym this week:
